4-25-24 2024 International Flashmob Event on 5-4-2024

Not a traditional flashmob however - just in a group. First dance, Absolute Beginner and second dance Improver.

3-21-24 No class on 3-28

There will be no classes on Thursday 3-28 and will resume as usual on April 4th.

Intro class on Wednesday, 3-27th is still on.

3-12-24 Class change for 3-21

Due to the Big Dance on the 21st, all classes usually on that day, will be moved to Wed, the 20th. Easy will start at 2pm, Beginner at 3pm and Beyond 4pm.

1-27-2024 We're dancing again!!!

Our new venue is the backroom at the VFW Hall #5658 in Elberta, which is only 3 minutes east of the barn. The address is 24230 US98, just after the 2nd curve and will be on the right. You can’t miss the flags and tank! The phone number is 251-986-8201. All inside rooms are non-smoking. Check in and pay at the bar.

It is closed on Mondays, my preferred day, but Thursday will work and not interfere with other area classes. I’ve moved up the time to Easy at noon, solid Beginner at 1 and Beyond at 2. We will start next week on Feb 1st. This does NOT affect my current Intro class.

I will be still paying for the hall but can lower my rates by $1. They open at 11 and do serve food, along with having a full bar with daily specials. Water is $1 and since no outside beverages are allowed, you can always use your extra buck to support our new place. You will sign in and pay at the bar. Charlotte should be the usual bartender.

We will have lots of space. The floor is fine, vinyl I’m guessing. Lots of tables, well-lit and friendly staff. I’ll be going there sometime early next week to figure out the sound system.

1-20-2024 No longer at the barn

After almost 4 ½ years (Aug 2019) of butting heads with Don at the Barn, aka Alabama Gulf Coast Music Hall, I will no longer be teaching line dancing there. I quit on the 18th and I’m happy! It just was no longer worth the ongoing BS and stress plus the badgering I AND my dancers frequently received over the years.

Sparing all the details, the final straw when was he deliberately, I repeat deliberately, scheduled another event on 2-7, starting at 6pm, which would be right in the middle of my Intro class. This came after another confrontation only a few hours prior. I spoke to the other event person the next morning and was told she had preferred a Thursday but would let him make all the decisions. As of now, there is still nothing scheduled for Thursday, 2-8, other than his personal band, which usually only has a handful of people in attendance, compared to the 500+ capacity.

What a great way to impress new customers: my dancers! BTW, he never even told me. I read it in email promotion for the other event. His retaliation, I guess.

Thanks for all the support and best wishes I have already received from many dancers. I look forward to seeing you on the floor again SOON, teaching at a new venue!

11-9-2023 November and December Dates

Nov 22nd no classes due to Thanksgiving.

Nov 29th only Easy and Beginner classes. I will be out of town and Ann Fulbright and Maria Cardoza have volunteered to lead the classes. Thank you gals!

Dec 13th will be the Christmas Party from 1-4, $8 for food, sigificant others are welcome. Menu will be small sandwiches, veggies, fruit, chips and cookies. Come Chat N Chew, and Dance, of course!

Dec 14th is the last Big Red Barn Dance of the year

Dec 20th and 27th no classes, resuming Jan 3, 2024

12-30-22 Not a Line Dance but it's going to be FUN!!!

It’s going to be a terrific night of singing, dancing, and reminiscing to the great

songs from way back when. There will be drawings, trivia and dance contests

and more. Come twist with Chubby Checker or calypso to hits by Neil Sedaka

and Paul Anka. You can slow dance to Johnny Mathis or shake it up to a

medley of top hits by Elvis. Do you remember The Stroll or Hand Jive? And

who can forget the Doo-Wop, Soul and British Invasion hits? We’ll listen to

top Songs of the Year as well as some One Hit Wonders and other favorites.

Snap a selfie of your gang with Elvis or standing beside a jukebox. You might

even have a chance to try your hand (or hips) with a Hula Hoop again. So dig

out those poodle skirts or roll up a pack of cigarettes in the sleeve of a white

tee or get your groove on in a tie dyed shirt and bell bottoms. Plan a night out

while creating some great new memories. Don’t wait too long or you’ll miss all

12-1-2022 December Holiday Schedule

Next week, Dec 7th, will be the last week for the late starts and no Beyond class. We will be reviewing dances for the Big Barn Dance on the 15th. I will need to know who is planning on coming to the Christmas party.

The following week, Dec 14th, will be the Christmas Party, from 1-4pm. Cost is $7 per person which will include small sandwiches, chips, fruit, veggies and cookies. We will eat a little, dance a little, chat a little and continue reviewing the Christmas dances. Feel free to bring a significant other.

Dec 15th will be the last Big Barn Dance for the year!

After the 14th, will be no more classes until Jan 4, 2023.

11-9-2022 More class changes

The Beyond class has been cancelled for the rest of the year due to the late time rescheduling, resuming Jan 4, 2023. Easy and Beginner classes remain unchanged. The Intro class is back to 6-7pm.

11-3-2022 Class changes

Due to other events at the Barn, classes will be starting later from Nov 9th through Dec 7th. New times will be: Easy 3-4pm, Beginner 4-5pm, Beyond 5-6pm and Intro at 6:30-7:30pm. No Class 11-23 (Thanksgiving Eve).

I apologize for any inconvenience from 11-2 as I was not given that date. The Christmas party will be Dec 14th with details to follow.

10-5-2022 Class time changes starting October 12th

Due to other events at the Barn, classes will be starting later on: Oct 12 and 26, Nov 9, 16 and 30 and Dec 7. New times for these days only will be: Easy 3-4pm, Beginner 4-5pm, Beyond 5-6pm and Intro at 6:30-7:30pm.

8-10-2022 Dance Date for December changed again

We were able to change our December Big Red Barn Dance from Saturday, December 10th to Thursday, December 15th.

7-7-2022 Dance Date Changes and Additions

In an effort to possibly allow for fewer conflicts with family/social gatherings and other special events, we are moving our Big Barn Dances to Thursday nights where possible. It will be better for the Barn and should also lessen the chance of being bumped. For the rest of 2022, August 6th and December 10th will remain on Saturdays, still starting at 5. September 22nd and October 27th are the new dates on Thursdays with start times of 6 to allow time for those that either work or travel a great distance. January 12th has also been booked on a Thursday and will post as soon as we have scheduled the rest of 2023. Dates and times are also on Events Tab.

7-7-2022 Special Dance Event

Another important date is January 26th at the Barn. We are working on a Golden Oldies Dance event, playing the top fast, slow and in between hits, by the original artists from two decades (50’s and 60’s). This is NOT a line dance event, but that’s not to say there will be no line dancing. The greatest music is the top priority. It’s just an old fashion dance where you can “have a blast” dancing, singing or just sitting back, relaxing and “remembering when”. More info to follow, but in the meantime, you can brush up on your Bunny Hop, Stroll, Twist, Mashed Potato, etc!

7-7-2022 Annual Class Christmas Party

Mark your calendars for our Christmas event on December 14th. It will be held during our regular scheduled class time, 2-5pm. There will be no classes the rest of the month. More details to follow.

5-16-22 PZK Hall

Come check out this new place to dance: PZK Hall in Robertsdale.

Take 59 to 104 and go west a block or so. It a big building on the right (north side).

A band called the Southern Star plays on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 7-9pm. They provide a variety of music for open dancing, including line dancing on a great wood floor. It’s $5 to get in and you can BYOB. Pop, water a coffee is available for $1. They alternate with hotdog baskets $5 and BBQ baskets $6, both include chips and a drink.
